There's not a damn thing worth trying there. If your idea of seafood is previously frozen, fried everything, with views of brown sand, you're going to love it.

That's nonsense.

Try eating as Kranzler or the Palms. Grapevine Cafe is good for breakfast. We like the Wanna Wanna for drinks. Dirty Al's has good seafood as well. And I know it's "touristy" but the Sea Ranch is very good.

If you like to party, Clayton's is the place. There is a dance club in the Isla Grande (old Radisson) called the Quarter Deck that can get wild.

If you like to fish, Jim's Pier can hook you up for either inshore or offshore. There is some really great fishing in the Laguna Madre.

While the water isn't anywhere near as clear as the Florida Panhandle, SPI is the best beach in Texas. It is a substantial improvement over Galveston. It can get crowded and the traffic can get bad, so plan accordingly.

We were there for the day on Saturday. It was windy and the water was cut up, but it was still a nice outing.

I lived there for a year, it's basically a shithole.

The best shrimp po boy is als (right turn off bridge).

There is a microbrewery that's ok.

Best bar imo is wahoo saloon on the bay but it might be closed

There's a restaurant in port Isabel called pirates landing that is decent.

Otherwise, the sea turtle place is kind of cool. Other than that, enjoy the beaches full of trash.

And actually the coolest local thing is about an hour drive but is the Laguna atascosa wildlife refuge- tons of weird birds and wildlife you can only see in south Texas.... Might be worth a trip, you'll see more at dawn and dusk, obviously.

I appreciate the feedback. So you don't think it is worth it for even a long weekend in November? We were thinking of going somewhere "warmer" for Thanksgiving since we aren't going to be able to spend time with our family at that time.

No, unless you like hiking/nature. If you're into driving to different wildlife areas or refuges there's plenty to see but the beach is crappy, even in November and it might rain the whole month. I'd go to Tampa or somewhere in south Florida if you want warm and beaches.

South padre is somewhere someone could never go and miss nothing. It's pretty gross. I hated living there

Nope nope nope. You're trying to put lipstick on a pig.

Decent fishing but a shite bucket overall.

Agree on Wanna Wanna. Manual's in Port Isabel for breakfast tacos. Stop at one of the seafood markets and have them make you a Mexican shrimp cocktail (no that's not slang for something nasty). Tell them to make it hot.

Appreciate it for what it is. It isn't the FL Panhandle, but it can be fun and relaxing, especially if you like to people watch.

You folks that are saying that SPI is a shite hole are blowing smoke up the OPs arse.

What is SPI a shithole compared to, the French Riviera? Bora Bora? Miami Beach?

Properties and amenities very comparable to Destin, and the fishing is much better. The water just isn't the same as Destin.

But it very well can be cold in November.

Appreciate everyone's input. I'm going to check out SPI. I've been to the redneck riviera plenty of times. I want to see something different.

Don't worry. This is basically how most people talk about the MS Gulf Coast as well, but there's plenty to enjoy here. Some people can't find the good in anything.
