What all should I start preparing to bring on a snow skiing trip at the end of the year? Certain clothes, boots, accessories, etc.
Thanks for any help for packing

Is this your first time? You may look into buying a helmet and goggles right now. You can rent them if you don’t want to pack them but you can buy some on sale this time of year usually. Outside of that do you have gloves, good socks, etc? The clothes are pretty self explanatory.

Get some base layers. Long sleeve undershirts and underwear. They're rated for coldness expected. Just go for 1 out of 4. You can add shirts if it's going to be like 15 for the high at the base of the mountain. Have gloves or mittens. Few pairs of wool socks. Good waterproof jacket intended for skiing. Waterproof ski pants.

None of this need be the most expensive options.

Maybe get some goggles too. Otherwise rent everything else (ideally not at the mountain).

I know when I first started going, I underestimated how warm I would end up being. If it's cloudy, windy, and 15 or below at the base of the mountain you can be a little chilly. If the sun is going to be out, you'll end up dropping layers as the day goes along.

I'll try to be helpful.

First, buy now! Lots of great sales. Mountain Hardware is always a solid option - kind of like the Target for ski gear. If you want to spend a bit more, Evo is solid.

You need the following gear: base layers (shirt/long johns/leggings), mid-layer, ski pants, ski jacket, googles, socks, gloves.

I would cheap out (and buy now) your base layers. With your long johns/leggings, buy 3/4 length. Full length leads to blisters (chafing with boot). Buy decent goggles, you don't want them fogging out. Inexpensive gloves are also fine. I'd do the same with ski pants. They are pretty inexpensive, and as long as they are made for skiing, they should do the trick (i.e., be waterproof). Personally, I like to wear bibs, but a lot of people don't.

Don't cheap out on ski socks. Keeping your feet warm can make a big difference between being happy and miserable.

This brings us to the mid-layer and ski jacket. Personally, I think the Northface Thermoball jackets offer pretty solid value. They are a 3-1 jacket, and are normally on sale this time-of-year. Personally, I use an Arc shell (Rush) and Arc mid-layer (Atom LT), so I can remove one or the other.

I also like to bring a neck gaiter.

Normally, ski rental places will throw in a helmet for free. However, if wearing a used helmet grosses you out, you can always get your own.

If you want to ski on the cheap, buy now. You'll save upwards of 50%.

Buy a helmet, goggles, neck gaiter& gloves now. It’s all on sale. Go to your local REI in November and pick up a jacket, pants & layers. Take all the REI stuff back after the ski trip because they have a 365 no questions asked return policy.

What I did about 2 years ago was this...Bought some cheap stuff on sale during the summer. I bought a helmet, goggles & gloves. I found some ski pants on sale at a local outlet store. Bought a cheap jacket(but warm) jacket to get me through. Throughout the year i slowly bought better stuff that I liked. Now my gear is pretty much full set to what i want. I am picking up some bibs this winter in place of my ski pants.
