All those hidden fees are are a total crock of s***. Hotels.com does it too, you can find a $30 "resort fee" per night on top of your room nightly fee.

I think it's a way to get around the referral fees for sites like VRBO and hotels.com, which is asinine. Just build the fee into the room.

I actively avoid places with those hidden fees. It's sketchy and I don't like doing business that way.

I don't find the hidden fees bad on hotels.com I mean I just booked a place for what they listed + taxes only.... I have not seen that on my searches via hotels.com

It's not as common as other sites, but I was at a conference last year and they hit us for $35/day on top of a $250/night room for "resort fees", and explained it as "oh thats for parking n stuff". We parked one car, had four rooms. $140/night for parking is double the rates in Manhattan or Chicago with valet.

And at the end of the day, if I spend $285/night I want my reward benefits to reflect that.
