I'll be heading to Sao Paulo for a week for work. I have been to Brazil before, but only Rio. I'd like to go early and spend the weekend in Sao Paulo.

Anyone ever been? Recommendations on what to go, where to stay, information on various neighborhoods, restaurants/bars, etc

The area around the Museum of Art is upscale.

Sao Paulo is a big city. It'll be a lot more fun if you know or hang out with locals.

Thinking of staying in a hostel (private room) for the weekend.

I mean I could be totally wrong, but I’ve always heard from business colleagues that São Paulo is extremely unsafe. To the point that the hotel provided escort security and recommended that once done with any meetings that they immediately return to the hotel. Maybe they were all over exaggerating, but that’s what I’ve been told so I feel i wouldn’t be doing my due diligence in at least giving you a heads up. Maybe others have different experiences, but this is coming from several different people I know.

I went to São Paulo for business. The plant was only three blocks from the hotel. They were very explicit about do not walk around by yourself. They sent a car to pick me up every morning. And there was a wall around the hotel with security guard at the gate.
I think it is like any other big city in that you better know where you are going. Be careful and don’t go anywhere alone. Go with a local.
