Loretto Chapel is a must. Town Square and the end of the Santa Fe Trail is cool. We ate at 2 places that were highly rated??? and we were not impressed.

We are foodies and expect more. I'm not going to name the 2 places in Santa Fe because our expectations are high. We sent back a steak but I would have been embarrassed to serve it to backyard visitors.

I assume you did Geronimo?

I've been twice and enjoyed it but I was fairly intoxicated on both occasions.

We enjoyed Herve Wine Bar right off the Plaza. Joseph's Culinary Pub was the best dinner we had while there. For Brunch I'd suggest Clafoutis. There is a Native American Chocolate shop that is a must stop.

It's universally loved, so you should do it. I enjoyed it a lot but it won't make any "lifetime best of" lists for me. I'm not a foodie. It's right on Canyon Road, which I like a lot, so it's just an all around good place to go IMO.

All that said I am perfectly happy with regular old Santa Fe/New Mexican food, so I'd just as soon go to the shed/tomasitas/whatever the place at La Fonda is/etc.

Ate at Geronimo’s shortly before covid and thought it was great. A few of the items we ordered were truly stellar and the service put New Orleans fine dinning to shame.

I also enjoyed the shed for your basic NM fare and kakawa for the drinking chocolate.

We just left Santa Fe and things are packed with tourists. Get reservations at any place you want to go or be prepared for 1 1/2 hour waits. One trick if you don't have reservations is to ask to eat in the bar. I live New Mexican red sauce enchiladas and the 2 best places we found that was La Choza (sister restaurant of the shed) and Tomasitas. We tried to get reservations at the Shed but they only had really late slots. A great place for beer and food about 2 or 3 miles away from the plaza is Rowley Farmhouse Ales. Near the plaza we enjoyed sitting at the bar at Fire n Hops which was mostly locals who were usually friendly. We are in Taos now and things are eve

These are solid suggestions. Also check out Tesuque Village Market for food and drinks (outside of town). I can't emphasize enough that Rowley's is very, very good. I"d also pick up some Bow and Arrow while you're in the area (though it's out of Albuquerque).

Breakfast you should do Cafe Pasqual (Huevos Molutenos). Dolina's is also awesome for breakfast and lunch. Shake Foundation for lunch. A local friend of ours really likes El Parasol and El Toreador food truck for more of a local, dive type food.

You'll pass El Parasol on your way back from Taos. There's a location north of Santa Fe toward Espanola (there are a bunch of locations around the area, though if you miss that one)

It's a dive, but has fresh fried tacos for like 2 bucks a pop. Cowgirls Hall of Fame is another good one. If you want "fancy," we also really like Paloma. Oh.. another really good one is the blue corn and lavender donuts from Whoos donuts. They sell them at the Farmer's Market as well. Kind of amazing.

Also: also those 90 minute waits at La Choza or the Shed used to be a lot more bearable when you could get drinks at the bar while waiting on your table. Santa Fe (at least 3 weeks ago) was still pretty high on the COVID enforcement. We've been there like 4 times during COVID, though, and it's gotten much better. We went early summer last year, and the whole place was basically shut down (which was nice in a way, since we were mainly there for outdoor activities and don't mind cooking at our casita).
