Paging United airline experts - upgrade confirmed

I requested an upgrade to first/business using points and cash. MSY to Naples, Italy. I was mainly worried about the long segment from Dulles to Brussels, but the request applies to the whole trip going.. When will I likely find out if we have been upgraded? I have gold status and 2 of us on the booking have United credit cards. Just hoping that we’d get the upgrade since it’s a Polaris lay flat. Seems like out of 60 available seats in Polaris only 5 or so are booked. Any insights or experience appreciated!

Good luck, hope it works out, Gold get you very little on UA, Platinum only slightly more. If the small ‘load’ in BusinessFirst remains your chances increase.

They clear the miles upgrade request much like standard complimentary upgrade. Higher status folks wo have requested the same miles upgrade will get upgrade before lower tiered folks.

For United, I’m pretty sure you’ll find out if you’ve been cleared at the gate. I wouldn’t get your hopes too high — Gold isn’t much with status and having a United card won’t make a difference, either.
ETA: Hope you get lucky. What a treat it is to start a long journey with an upgrade you didn’t expect.

In my years of flying United from Silver to Global Services..the upgrades came either immediately or at the gate..
They try to sell them up to the last minute but you will probably get upgraded...
The one thing I have noticed lately is that they are offering very discounted business class at the last minute.
I was able to upgrade from Frankfurt to Dulles for 750 USD not too long ago. I know that spending twice that is expensive, but still a bargain compared to how you could better use your miles.

This, i am platinum and cant even get an upgrade. my friends with no status get the option to upgrade for 100 bucks and they jump on it. while i sit in the back because i waited for the freebie. lolol.

The upgrade was confirmed. Made my day! Now I’m off to seat guru to research the seats they assigned. 6L,G, and D. I am going to try to sleep since it’s an overnight but want to make sure my daughter is close and comfortable. Thanks for all of the insight.
