I'll add - think about how you are getting into NYC. Some hotels do offer parking or valet parking options, but it can be a pain driving around there, especially in or near Times Square. And some of the parking is blocks away from the hotel. Totally up to you based on your needs obviously, but I think there are some park and ride options from New Jersey as well. Just something to consider as you look for hotels.
I once made the mistake of driving through Times Square like a week before New Years. Won't be doing that ever again

Funny enough, we took a car that time I stayed at Marriott Marquis, and it was Black Friday when we arrived.
You can imagine how that was..

I was just looking for hotels in early December, holy shite NYC hotels are a ton.
Same I was looking at October and my favorite hotel was easily double what we paid last time. Wall Street hotel was 4000 plus for 5 nights in their smallest king room. I think we paid 2700 for a very nice suite last time we went. Worth every penny at that rate. I love that place.

Check the Radio City Apartments - a hotel that used to be, well, apartments so the rooms are bigger than most; close to Broadway/Times Square. Caveat: it was quite a few years ago when we went, so check the current reviews.
