We're heading next summer to Northern Italy. Flying in to Venice. We have parents and inlaws coming who are wanting slower paced city stuff, and we want hiking in the Dolomites. What's the best town for both activities?

One town for both?
Cortina d’Ampezzo.
Hotel de la Poste is a nice one.
I just got back from three days in Venice.
One of my favorite places.

Yes one town to use as a base for both. My son is stationed at Aviano so I'd like to go an hour or two North of there.

Oh, Cortina d’Ampezzo looks like a good area. I'm guessing there's really good hiking near there.
Looking it up, this seems perfect.
Appreciate!

We drove through northern Italy for 2 weeks last year as they were preparing for the winter Olympics
Stayed at at an airBnB in Cortina.
Nice town, narrow streets. Beautiful area. Lots of great hikes.
Some of the trailheads have limited parking. Can't recall exactly which one, but you had to get there early do have a chance to park on the side of the road.

Ortisei. Great town and hiking.
Sirmione on Lake Garda, and Verona.
Amarone is the wine. Don't pass it up.
