Looking into some cabins in north GA or North Carolina to possibly go for christmas time this year.

Anyone know of any good towns/spots to visit that time of year to check out? Starting to do some research.

Found a few places in North GA that looks interesting along with some places near Bryson City, NC. If we go into NC we may not be far from the Biltmore in Ashville, that looks like it could be fun.

Just looking to do/see some things we would normally not experience during that time of the year because we stay home in Louisiana.

TIA!

Where exactly in N GA?
Dahlonega transforms into an absolute Christmas village. If you could mention where you are considering, it would be beneficial.

Considering the same 2 areas. Possibly Blue Ridge Ga. or Highlands NC areas

Blue Ridge is nice. It is more of a strip wheras Dahlonega has a town square. BR is north of Ellijay which is worth exploring as is Hiawassee (north of BR) where you can hike Brasstown Bald and see Lake Chatuge. The towns of Young Harris, Blairsville and Hayesville,NC.

Blue Ridge

Hiawassee

Yes we are looking at anywhere in north GA… but also came across Bryson City in NC… Highlands area looks nice as well.

Really focusing on trying to find something since most has already been booked

Don't have much NC experience, but really enjoyed the Ellijay/Blue Ridge area back in the spring. Way more so than we expected actually. I'm sure Blue Ridge is great at Christmas.

More detail? Looking into it… narrowed down 1 spot in Bryson City that checks all the boxes, an hour away from Asheville if we wanted to go check out the Biltmore etc…

But still looking…

We did Christmas in Highlands about 10 years ago. They do a good job with Christmas decorations in the town, and you kind of feel like you're in a Hallmark movie. At the time, several businesses in town were closed for the winter. I've heard that doesn't happen as much these days, and they wait until after the new year to close for the winter. We got iced in at the house we rented one morning, and that's always a possibility at that elevation. Most of the ice was melted by early afternoon and we could have gotten out had we wanted to. It was REALLY cold the 3 or 4 days we were there. Cold front came in the night we arrived, and highs were in the 20's every day.

It's a little over an hour to the Biltmore from Highlands. A few places to stop between the two - Cashiers, Sapphire(there's a small ski hill there), and Brevard.

Sylva and Dillsboro are 20 minutes from there and are nice as well.

There are still several that are closed, and others close early. but its a great town. We do Christmas there every few years. Definitely not Blue Ridge, but they are different towns, but good in different ways

If I had to guess, over half of the shops and restaurants were closed when we went. Granted, we only went to town for lunch on Christmas Eve, and for a few hours the day after Christmas. They could have just been closed for the holiday.

Is the ski worth it in Saphire? that may intrigue me to head that way if so.

LINK

Could be a neat day activity...even though we understand it likely wont be real snow.

I've never been, so no idea. Looking at pics online it looks like only a few slopes with man made snow. I guess it'd be okay if you've never been skiing, but would probably be pretty lame if you've been to Colorado or Utah skiing.

Yes, never been and the trip wouldnt be planned solely with ski in mind.... would just be a good half day activity or something...

Looking into that area not finding many cabins with Mountain views etc.

That area doesnt have that type vs something more near Bryson City or Blue Ridge area...

I've been to that area when I was a kid and remember most about that area was the hikes+amount of waterfalls in the area to access.

There's a fair amount in Highlands, but that is a popular time so availability is likely low. Sapphire is down in a valley somewhat, so not many to begin with.
