It's good.
Can also visit City Park, the Aquarium, and Insectarium.
City Park has a Cafe Du Mond, so you don't have to battle the downtown tourist.

Think they’re both closed while they consolidate them at the Aquarium location…zoo is just fine this time of year with temps not too hot

Carousel Gardens/Storyland in City Park are also good ways to have kids pass the time

Very good zoo, plan for half day
Can do as little as 2 hours depending on how quickly kid moves through things
All dependent on how long kids play on monkey hill and if weather allows them to play in water - can add up to an hour

Just went this past weekend, weather was great
Got there right at opening 10am minimal crowds that increased as day went on but never "busy"

This is what we do, get there at 10am for opening. Crowds tend to get busiest right after lunch. We can hit all the areas we want, and grab a quick bite before we leave (you can bring your own food and drinks in a soft pack) within 2-3 hours.

From time to time it does tend to get really busy around the orangutan, tiger, elephant areas; but once you get past that it usually spreads out pretty quick.
