Hello TD Friends, has anyone done a fall, B&B type trip to see the foliage around New England? Mid-October or so?

Looking for ideas / recommendations. TIA

Last year we flew in to Boston drove up to Vermont for a week, hit it perfect on first week of October. According to the locals that’s the exact sweet spot more often than not. Actually watched the reds fall later that week and snow in forecast when we left. I highly recommend the Stowe area for a few days if you’re mobile. Have fun

Vermont or New Hampshire are your best bets
It's really all timing as to whether you hit the right week or not
We drove up through New Hampshire in mid October and it was like half foilage, not the full thing but still some incredible views

We been a couple times and as mentioned it depends on the weather and conditions. Only once have we hit peak conditions.

That year (1997) we drove from Boston up to Bar Harbour (Acacia NP) and then from there down thru New Hampshire & Vermont. The whole drive was spectacular as far as color. We stopped in St. Johnsbury, VT to find a place to stay and everything was full. We went to the visitor center, and they told us everything within a three-hour drive was booked solid. But this happened often in peak foliage season and there were people in town that opened their houses to visitors. The couple in front of us heard this and walked out; we said we would give it a shot. Us and another couple ended up staying with a couple in ST. Johnsbury. He was a State Farm agent who had actually been to BR to help with hurricane Andrew claims.

We flew into Albany, NY first week of October last year and rented a car. Drove to Lake Placid first for 2 days and hit it perfect. Then drove to Vermont and hit Stowe for a couple of days, then drove back to Albany and took a train down to Manhattan for a couple days and flew back from NYC.

Wife and I did the same in 2024, it was beautiful. We picked apples at an orchard and drove to Canada just for the hell of it as well. That is a great area that time of year.

I flew into Providence, road tripped across CT, MA, VT and went grouse and woodcock hunting in northern New Hampshire a couple of years ago.

I really liked Portsmouth.
