Looking to go to Nashville the last weekend in September. What are some good hotels downtown. Going to the Ryman Sunday night. I've been several times but the wife hasn't.

Downtown Sporting Club seems real interesting, but could also be the exact opposite of what youre looking for

Last time we were there (2015 I think), we stayed at the Hampton Inn & Suites. It's on the corner of 4th Ave South & Korean Veterans Blvd. If we were to go back I would have no qualms about staying there again.

We’ve stayed here twice. I would go back. Last time was 2014 for the Music City Bowl.

I like the Hutton near Vanderbilt. It's a decent walk to downtown though, but Ubers are pretty cheap from there.
The Westin and Omni downtown are nice as well.

That is a great place to stay . Very convenient to Printers Alley bars (right across street)
Also, I would consider the Hilton Downtown. It is probably the best as far as location and nice too Real close to bridge over the river, Broadway, Predators arena, Country Music HOF, etc
