Looking for some recommendations for a long weekend destination out of MSY(preferably with a direct). Wife will be 7 months pregnant so she would rather not deal with the heat of Austin or Key West. Trip will be in July.

Off the top of my head without knowing you or your interests, all of these places should have a nonstop or one stop flight and would be great for a weekend.
Boston
Portland, ME
NYC
Chicago
Richmond, VA
Milwaukee

Nola to Denver is direct. I assume solid weather, compared to most, for July. You could stay I town or a drive a couple hours to various mountain town.

Yeah Direct to Chi is pretty simple.
Have many flights that leave at 5:50am and arrive at 8:00am on SW. Can fly in on a Friday morning and fly back on a sunday.
did this twice already. very simple and get plenty accomplished

THIS.
Did Saturday morning to Monday afternoon last year for Father's Day weekend; caught a Rockies game at Coors Field, checked out the town, saw Red Rocks, went into the Rockies, took an easy trail hike with views overlooking Denver at Mt. Falcon Park. Saw some small towns in the Rockies and visited Boulder, which was nice.
Another direct flight weekend option (especially if you like baseball or soccer) is Kansas City- Royals or Sporting KC MLS game, KC BBQ, WWI Museum, Negro Leagues museum, some nice parks, really cool town.
