Last minute Fall vacation ideas

The wife and I are trying to plan a vacation for sometime around October for a week. We have no kids and are trying to stay within a 7 hour drive (from BR) and within a 3 hour flight. Beautiful sights, good night life, golf, and a place that will keep us busy for a week is ideal.

Charleston, Hilton Head, and Tampa are pretty easy to get to and have all the things you mentioned. If you're willing to fly + drive you could get into the western NC area - Bryson City is nice. If flying out of New Orleans you can get to Denver, Miami, DC, or Chicago in under 3 hours. Chicago might be nice if yall are into architecture. You could probably get to Cancun in under 3 hours too

May wanna look into some areas in the northeast for some fall foliage. May be a touch over 3hours on a flight. If willing to drive a little bit you could maybe fly into Boston and check out the city with some drives to Portsmouth, NH and maybe mix in Salem since it’s pretty cool in October with all the Halloween stuff.

Outside your flight time profiles but we hunted the UP of Michigan and stayed just off Lake Superior the last week of September 2 years ago and we hit peak leaf change. It was incredible. Sawyer International Airport puts you in the heart of everything.

Fly into Phoenix and take the short drive up to Sedona. Great golf, food, hiking, and spas. You can day trip to Cottonwood, Jerome, Flagstaff, and Grand Canyon NP.
Texas Hill Country. Fly into San Antonio or Austin OR fly into one and leave from the other. Fredericksburg, New Braunfels, San Marcos, Dripping Springs, Boerne, Blanco. Lots to explore.
Second New England fall foliage. Boston will be easiest to find a direct flight.
Miami/Fort Lauderdale. South Beach. Wynnwood. Little Havana. Coral Gables. Key Biscayne. You could take a couple of days and meander down to Key West.
Cruise. I recommend going out of Galveston. Quick flight into Hobby then Uber down to the Island. Both RCCL and Carnival port better ships out of Galveston. You can also choose great routes out of Miami, Port Canaveral, or FLL. If you have the extra money to spend, take a good look at Celebrity. Most itineraries will offer a golfing excursion. My dad did one in Cozumel. (The ships that port in NOLA are older and attract a crowd that wants a cheaper getaway.)

X2 on the Arizona recommendation. We just back and visited all of the places listed. Absolutely beautiful area.

Yep. Beautiful part of the country. We camped outside of Munising.
Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is spectacular.
I'd echo Michigan, flying into Traverse City Michigan. Amazing scenery, food, wine scene. Several golf courses in the area. About our favorite place in the country. LINK
Some drivable suggestions:
Mount Magazine State Park in Arkansas. We really liked it. Not a great food/nightlife scene, but relaxing. Nice Lodge. Great hiking and scenery.

I live in WNC, Bryson City is nice and so is Waynesville. I’m not a fan of Asheville but plenty of people like it.
