Laguna Beach

I lived out there years ago and there isn't any great hiking IMO except the San Juan trail which is about a 20-30 minute drive up Hwy 74 (Ortega Hwy.). There are 2 big parks near Laguna Beach, Crystal Cove State Park and Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park. Aliso Woods is a county park and charges $3 to park. Both of those are great for Mountain Biking. For a good view, drive up to Top of the World in Laguna Beach. Its about 1000' up and you can look out over the pacific. On a clear day its really nice but your likely to be above the smog and will see all the brown air your breathing below you. There is also a trail head to Aliso Woods park up there so you can do a little hiking but its mostly just fire roads.






My favorite beach is 1000 steps beach about 10 minutes south of Laguna Beach. It has a bunch of steps down the cliff to the beach.



You could also go visit Mission San Juan Capistrano....where the old song about the swallows returning came from. Its nice for killing an hour. Across the street is El Adobe mexican restaurant where Dick Nixon used to eat all the time. It was good food when I lived out there but that's been a while. You could also check out Dana Point Marina where there are a bunch of high dollar boats and you can charter a cruise for whale watching and even charter a tall sail ship.
