Leaving next Sunday to go to the big island would appreciate hiking trails or restaurant recommendations if anyone has been. Thanks.

You need to go to Lava Lava Beach club in Waikaloa. It's literally on the beach with fantastic views and good food and even better drinks.
About 15-20 minutes up from the airport right next to the Marriott.

Stick to the local places. We stopped in to some great small restaurants as we drove around the island. Bamboo and Gill’s up north. I can’t remember them all.

Hike at Pololu Valley, Waipio Valley, Papakolea Beach, and Mauna Kea.

Something pretty fun is flumin da ditch. It's in Hawi which is a cool little town on the north shore.
The company is Flumin Kohala.
Hawi has shops and eateries on a old town street.

Kona Brewing would be a stop I'd make at some point during the trip.

I was all over that island. Had some great bento places that were local and delicious. The lava lava beach club, as mentioned earlier, has great food and atmosphere. Make sure to night snorkel with the manta rays and hike in volcanos Park.

Just rent a car and drive around. We stopped at waterfalls right off the road. Mauna Kea is other worldly at night. The whole island uses Yellow lights , so as to not pollute the sky with light. You can see the Milky Way so clear. We hiked down to cook monument, lots of fish.if you hike down make sure to being food and water.
