Bump. Don’t trust Spirit

Frontier loves to do this too.
Makes sense they want to merge.
I know the cost sucks but I will always stick with a crappy AA service that has good odds of eventually getting me to where I need to be.

Sorry this happened to you, you need any help finding alternatives? Where are you flying to/from?
This is where I'm at currently except replace AA with Delta. At this point of my life, if I need to be somewhere I'm booking Delta AA or United. Sure they may cancel a flight or a few, but you can manage to fight your way through their system and still get to where you wanted albeit late. In this situation, OP is completely screwed with a limited amount of spirit flights. And with a 1 yo in tow?

Thanks for the offer. We are trying to get to Fort Myers. I was able to find a flight with Allegiant the following day we were supposed to depart and also got a return flight from Ft Lauderdale on the same day we were originally planning to return. Lost a day and a bit of a drive to Ft Lauderdale for return but the trip has been salvaged. After refund having to rebook cost another ~$200

Sounds like you did very well given the circumstances
. Probably better than anything I could've found. First few questions I ask people during rebooking are about flexibility (different airports, different dates, different airlines) so I'm glad you found something that works. I've got family that does the FLL to RSW drive all the time and they haven't had issues

Cuse, you’re a good dude.
Your advice is spot-on too.

Update 4/10
Spirit cancelled our flight 2 days before departure! Only reason I was given was “operations”. Complete BS. Initially offered credit only , I complained and they finally gave me a refund. Still, trip plans ruined as everything right now is 1k a ticket plus. Guess I learned my lesson

The horror stories I’ve heard are when then cancel a flight and don’t have another one for 3 days. They refund you the $50 fare you paid them and you have to same day book with one of the majors for $1,000+
Looks like yellowfin was closest to the suggested retail price, what do we have for him Bob?
