Jamaica and Excellence Oyster Bay

Mrs. & I + another couple are looking at Excellence Oyster Bay in early summer. We did Beloved (excellence property) in Playa Mujeres last summer and enjoyed it.
Anyone have experience at EOB or Jamaica? I haven't been to Jamaica in years, but I hear it's pretty rough.

quote:My GF works several weeks there (i.e. Jamaica itself, not EOB) per quarter. IMO, it's a shite hole. Sure, you can go to some resort in Negril or wherever and never leave the premises - but then again, you can do that shite anywhere.

Kingston and MoBay are dreadful, at least in terms of having to keep your head on a swivel.
There are some cool locales in the rural parishes, but again - nothing special. Outside of Negril, the beaches just aren't even that nice.
They need to get their shite together, IMO.

Went last summer. EOB is what most of those places are, if you are looking for relaxation and a more chill time it’s a good spot. We never left the resort, so can’t speak to anything outside of it. Food ain’t Michelin star but it ain’t terrible. Some restaurants better than others. Some days service better than others. But for a rooftop room with a private pool was like $2500 for 4 nights which is pretty decent considering that’s the price you would pay for a destin condo now a days … if you do it get the excellence club package.. only thing I’ll say is the workers at Mexican all inclusives HUSTLE… The workers in Jamaica.. not so much lol.

Spot on. Affordable and the place to be in Jamaica. Nothing or no reason to leave resort. I thought it was great but not a destination I would return to, so many places I haven’t been to in Caribbean. Its a chill place for you and wife, not a party scene. I would recommend as a first time however.

Agree about the workers. Workers is Mexico are trying to make money and they bust their butts for anything you need. Jamaican workers are on island time

Yea definitely agree, if you’ve been to a few a places in the Caribbean and wanted to try someplace new I would go. But wouldn’t go a 2nd time. Affordable and chill best way to describe it. Will say the bartender at the martini bar, Oswald, is a gangster and his partner is hilarious. Spent every night after dinner there until I went to bed.
