What’s even more worrisome is that we’ve spent multiple days in both cities and didn’t go see either duomo

Sounds like Chicago.. never been and I'd fly up there for some deep dish pizza and some Art Deco buildings.

Do it, some of the best museums in the US as well. Check out the mega Chicago thread lots of good stuff.

Shreveport to Milan.

This made me laugh. I grew up in that part of the world and my dad called living in Shreveport "Outpost duty".

5 days in Europe with travel between cities and jet lag sounds like a horrific trip to me. Your wife made a good decision.

This. I understand the time constraints of only being able to spend 5 days in Europe. But you don’t attempt 3 different cities. That doesn’t sound fun at all.

If you don't figure out a way to deal with this (whether it works this time or not), you won't be going on any spontaneous trips of any length until the kid is in school. The grandparents will be older every year, too. I'm not saying you have any hope this year, but women can take a long, long time to warm up to a non relative helping/doing overnights.

I don’t remember going on “spontaneous” trips when our kids were young.

Is this a common thing?
