Was in CO this April and it was empty. Can definitely find some great deals on lodging in the towns themselves. We stayed in Frisco then drove to copper/a basin for skiing and Breckenridge for dinner one night

As far as how far to book out in advance, I tend to book a Christmas trip around now just to have something on the books. Flight schedule changes then give the flexibility to change +/- a day and get the flights I want

If you don’t stay in one of the resort towns, be prepared for the local workers to cut in front of you in the bus line in the morning.

Lift ops at most mountains is brutal about punctuality. Them poor lifties are nursing a hangover, probably high, just trying to not get fired.

So...

They don’t care about you getting to the lifts.

Also, the suggestion of Frisco is good for our guy going to Breck late season. Breck is a great town if you can swing a place but Frisco puts ya closer to other mountains (Keystone though...typically closes early in April so be aware).

Oh yeah I didn’t give them too much grief about it. I mean I get it. They’re grinding trying to make a living. Just a heads up.
