I think we spent too much time asking for directions etc.

Maps.me, Google Maps, OpenStreetMaps, etc., should make this a non issue for anyone. Just make sure you download offline maps before you leave the hotel so you're not burning data.

I am certain you can find Vlogs that indicate Paris is enjoying a better period than its ever had in its history. It is a matter of perspective. If I was curious enough about the "demise" of Paris I would go to Paris - I certainly would not not go because someone says it is not what it has been. Life is too short to not live.

Vlogs

Reeding is h4rd. Why do so many insist on watching 20 minute videos about shite that could be read (with pics) in five minutes? Videos are always going to be slanted to the idiot with the camera's perspective, whereas written stuff may take the experiences of multiple people, etc.

This has no context re: location, but doesn't paint a pretty picture. 227,000 violent crimes recorded in 2016, 384,000 recorded in 2023. It still wouldn't stop me from going, but those are the facts as reported by the French department of the Interior.

While I love to read, writing can be just as biased as video.

Wonder how much of these numbers are drawn from Marseilles and Montpellier opposed to Paris. Either way, most violent crime in Paris is probably pinpointed in some of the outer Arrondissements (i.e. 18th and 19th) where you won't see much tourism. It's not dissimilar to here in Chicago, for example - Visitors aren't going to West Garfield or Englewood (shite, I've never come close to either and I live in the city), just as they probably aren't getting anywhere near the 18th/19th unless they're going to Gare Du Nord. Closest I've gotten to either is Gare Du Nord, La Condesa, and the flea markets around Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine.
