I logged into my Hilton account to make a reservation. Immediately noticed I was missing 3/4 of a million points.

Contacted Hilton. Apparently, this has been happening since earlier this year. They hack into an account, link it to Amazon, using a program on Hilton, cash in and get a bunch of gift cards, then use the cards and use free same day delivery to some bogus address. Once the merchandise arrives they leave and close the Amazon link. All of it takes place in less than 24 hours before anyone realizes what's going on.

This sucks. I contacted Hilton and they say they're going to return the points, but in another traveler's forum I learned some people have been waiting three to four months for Hilton to return their points.

fricking hacker thieves. I hate those assholes.

Aren’t they obligated to disclose stuff like this?

Some people earn them at crazy rates and don’t have the chance to spend them.

I’m at 350k Marriott, which is closer to 450k Hilton mainly because we’ve been too busy to use them.

Of course, It was mostly in jest. I’m sure he is likely in a position that travels a ton. But then again, why is he sweating the loss and not being able to recoup them for 3 months?

Idk. But if it were my airline miles, I’d be pissed. I keep around 100k in there at all times as insurance for some situation where I need to get somewhere quick and really don’t have or want to spend the cash.

I have that expectation. And since they know this has been going on for a while (Flyertalk forum), why is it still happening? My password was one that it should take centuries to crack.

I rarely travel outside of business. I usually donate them to family members or use them when I come to Baton Rouge for a game and stay at the Capitol Hilton. That burns 170,000 points just for two nights.

With all the devaluations that's just like 2 nights at a regular Hilton

Same experience for me. 150k points taken and Hilton replaced them in a week or so.
