What's some of the best places to go and what's the best way to get around. Would it be easy enough to drive from spot to spot or would you suggest getting a cab or ride a bus?

Driving is a terrible idea, as parking is impossible. Public transit is safe, clean, orderly, and cheap--use it. The DC circulator buses take you past most of the major sights, the Metro gets you practically everywhere that's not Georgetown (and there's a G-town connector bus running from DuPont circle to Rosslyn metro). Uber is readily available, but I never bother with it except to/from the airport when I don't want to schlep bags on the metro.

Also, walk. So much to see when your eyes are moving at a walking pace.

Hit the W, the Round Robin at the Intercontinental, the Hamilton, Old Ebbits, and Off the Record at the Hay Adams for a fun pub crawl of cool places.

Just made it home from there. Office is in DC.

Don't drive. Metro where it's most convenient. Go to Jacks Rose.

I went this past summer. We only took two cabs the week we were there, everything else we walked. Also, if you are driving your vehicle up there, drive around a bit and look for a another parking option over the hotel parking. I found a spot near a church for 15/day versus the 50/day at the hotel.
