I’m kinda low key jealous ..
Why not meet her in Paris? While you could also meet here in Barca, if you surprised your daughter in Paris, exactly when do you think she's going to stop mentioning that? This seems like bait. You spend a couple of hundred bucks on a ticket, and two nights in a room, and your daughter will bring that up with *every* dude she's sorta serious with. That would be an amazing dad move. She'll talk about that forever.

Suggestions for not so touristy gems
Most people are going to gravitate to the Gothic Quarter and La Rambla and those are nice areas but very, very touristy and where most of the thieves hang out, along with the area around la Sangrada Familia, to prey on tourists. An area with several good tapas places filled with mostly locals is a pedestrian only street called Carrer de Blai. Its not as pretty as the gothic quarter but its pretty nice and you won't be fighting hordes of tourists. Koska Taverna, La Chana and La Platilleria are the best tapas in the area with La Platilleria being the best, and most crowded, get reservations. There is ice cream/gelato and several other shops and restaurants in the area. We mostly went to craft beer bars for drinking and I can tell you where we went if interested, Barcelona is one of the top craft beer cities in Europe.

Had not even thought of that .. she's going to Spain with a group of maybe 70? and then to Paris with I think a group of 10 or so. We have a great relationship (like she's 22 and I can count on 1 hand the number of fights we've had) but this is her time. I'll just get my hubby to take me another time!

Parish will be a group of 10 .. my understanding is that while in Barcelona and Madrid, they'll have classes until like 11 and can then do whatever they choose. SHe actually graduates in May so is taking the classes that will be beneficial BUT if she misses a class for what she considers a better opportunity it's of no consequence to her.
The lodging and maybe half of the meals are paid for and I think she plans to cook some for her/her roommate -- "I can see myself shopping at the local markets" ...
We didn't have these opportunities, or I didn't know about them, when I was in college.
Appreciate your help!!!
