It’s a once in a lifetime experience, it’s well worth forgoeing one late night. The bike ride down offers places to stop for breakfast, beers and snacks and you’ll still be done by like 10am.

We immediately went to Maui brewing for lunch after we got down.

How many times in your life will you be able to see the sunrise from above the clouds? It’s worth it, no question.

The one word that always comes to mind for me is “majestic”.

It wasn’t some life changing event for me but I’m glad I can say I’ve done it. It was pretty awe inspiring. Regret not getting a photo with/of the silver whatever plant, will never see them again in my lifetime.

Cons:
-It’s fricking COLD. Seriously, layer like a mofo.
-We were second car at top, no restrooms. Went back down to piss and parking lot was full, prohibited from re-entering.
-Probably partially remedied by Covid, it was crowded and a constant body bump to keep the railing spot. fricking Asians have no sense of personal space.
-Drive down was pretty annoying when you get stuck behind a slowpoke and dodge asshats on bikes.

Wasn’t our favorite experience, but one you kinda need to do at least once while you’re there.

Bring a jacket when you go up Haleakala! Trust me... shorts and a t-shirt won't cut it!

We have been twice and love Maui, it’s worth long travel day. The sunrise at Haleakala is amazing. Shuttle picked us up at 2:00am from our rental. We did some of the road to Hana but didn’t complete the entire trip. There is a beach at the end that looks amazing and I regret not going. I think it’s a red sand beach in a little cove. Also Sunday evening at Little Beach is pretty wild.

Little Beach

Closed. Apparently there was little social distancing at the Sunday drum circles.

I liked sunrise at Haleakala. Plan to do it your first morning there when you haven't completely acclimated to the time difference. It will make the early morning wakeup easier.

Also agree with recs for Mama's Fish House and the road to Hana.

When I stayed at the Grand Wailea you could snorkel right off the beach and see plenty of fish and turtles.

Maui is a great island with plenty to do and see. Enjoy!!
