Looking to do 3-5 nights in mid July. It seems like the pricing for condos has gotten crazy the last 3-4 years. Any hidden gems? Thinking somewhere between Fort Morgan and Destin.

Gulf Shores Plantation in Fort Morgan is cheaper, but an older complex. It's still a great place to visit. The only thing we didn't like was the $80 parking fee they didn't tell us about before arriving.

You will be limited on the places you can stay as a lot of the places on the beach now require a Sunday to Sunday stay for the summer months. And yes, the area has become quite expensive over the last 10 or so years.

I was debating going ahead and looking for somewhere for Memorial Day Weekend for my wife and kids. Last year I waited until April to look, but saw the prices and decided to just go to Mississippi. So, I guess the point I am making is the sooner the better to book something.

"Destin On the Gulf" is another older but cheaper option I've stayed at twice. Some units are more upgraded than others. We're probably heading back this year. We avoid the Summer months so that's where you really get the discount, plus the waits at restaurants are reasonable and traffic isn't quite as murderous.

The prices on the gulf coast have been insane for years but the demand is there so people keep paying it.

I got a two bedroom on Waikiki Beach in Hawaii with this view for less than $500/night. I get that from Louisiana airfare might be a big hurdle with Hawaii but if you're flying from many places on or near the west coast you can do a week in Hawaii cheaper than most people from Louisiana can do a week in Destin.

I understand the infatuation...I just don't agree with it.
