Too many to choose from.

We will now look in to the logistics of flying to an upgraded island rather than taking a ferry to the closest one.

Thanks for the input.

I'm biased, but think about Rhodes.

Also you can fly to Naxos in 40 min and spend a day or two and also day trip to Paros on the Sea Jet.

Bump to update.

We ended up choosing Hydra and are there right now. We arrived Wednesday afternoon by ferry from Pireaus, the port for Athens and will return to Pireaus on Saturday to board a cruise ship.

Hydra is a nice little place. The town is quaint. There are no private vehicles on the island but everything is within walking distance, unless you choose to ride a donkey.

I don’t see a real beach and there is very little nightlife, but there is activity along the waterfront with many shops, cafes and restaurants.

The reason we picked Hydra is because it is so easy to travel to and from there from Pireaus where we have to get back to on Saturday to board the ship.

Maybe on another trip we will have more time to stay on one of the bigger islands farther away, but for this trip I am glad to be on Hydra. It may not be for everyone, but we really like it here.

A short report in case anyone is interested in Hydra.
I am on the ferry now heading to Pireaus after 2 1/2 days in Hydra. It is a beautiful and relaxing place.
Hotel Leto is an excellent hotel just a short walk from the harbor.

Piato is a top notch seafood restaurant right on the harbor front.

Last night we ate at Omilos at an outdoor table with a view of the town on one side and the waves crashing against the rocks on the other. Delicious food and great ambience.

I am glad we chose Hydra for this short stay before our cruise.

Oh yeah!!!

PS: Let me know if you run into a tall, black server named Washington. He's from like South Africa or something, along with his brother. Usually works the World Cafe. Great guy! I have the perfect prank for you if you're into that kind of stuff! We made their trip.

PS: brother was KD.

And the name of your ship? The Star?

We're considering booking Greek Isles (Odyssey of the Seas) (Rome -> Santorini -> Ephesus -> Mykonos -> Naples -> Rome) for next summer. Man, so many options it's crippling.

Not super excited to tender in Santorini and Mykonos but it's not all that bad. Always wanted to see Ephesus is (one of the best ancient sites in the world) and really like the option of being on a bigger and newer ship for our teen daughter (and possible friend she brings).

LOL! Here's what you do...

Tell them you have some friends that just did the cruise last month. That they told you a story about their time with the US Coast Guard and how they were assigned to assist the South African Navy. That while there, they had to help rescue a man that was out at sea on a jet ski that lost power.

(that's a true story his brother KD told us to prank him with).

Then when he finally gets it tell them his friends from Nashville TN said hi! (Gave he and his brother a Tennessee Titan beanie as a gift when we left the ship).

We were in Santorini yesterday. It is a beautiful place. The weather was perfect and the town was not crowded at all this early in the season.

We did have to take a tender boat and a 40 minute bus ride, but it was well worth it.

Right now I am sitting on the site of the original Olympic games. Olympia.

Aegina

My wife's cousin got married on Aegina in September 2024. We spent 4-5 days there for the wedding activities. It was a nice trip. We had several good meals out on the town. My wife's aunt is from Greece and the groom is from Italy, so we had old Italian and Greek ladies cooking a lot of our meals at the villa
