Looking to go with the family on a Greek cruise out of Venice. Any suggestions tips?

Any ports that are must? I see a lot of options are available. I know Athens will be a requirement for us. Is it better to do a round trip to Venice or fly out of another city?

TIA

We a doing A 9 day out of Rome on Royal Caribbean in June. Sicily, Athens, Santorini, Mykonos, somewhere in Turkey and Naples IIrc. To be honest we chose that strictly because it fits the dates we needed. I have taken a 7 day Norwegian western med out of Barcelona that was great too.

Biggest piece of advice I can give is to pick your cruise line first, then the itinerary

TBH on the Euro cruises I have taken compared to the American ones it's the clientele that makes the American cruises trashy not the particular cruise lines themselves LOL

I dont really mean in regards to clientele but in regards to what the different lines offer. Sailing Viking will give you much different experience than sailing Royal Caribbean. If I am sailing Europe with my wife and daughter, we couldnt do Viking because they don't have kids, BUT, if it was my dad, brother and I we would go Viking all the way.

When you're in Athens regardless of the line you have to get off and tae a bus for hours from the port, that doesnt change regardless of what line you are one.

But, on Viking excursions are included so if you plan on alot of cruise excursions you may want something that includes those. If you don't plan on booking directly through the cruise line maybe look for a cheaper fare and look to add on an all inclusive alcohol policy, etc.

Almost of the lines that sail in Europe have similar itineraries but the lines themselves can differ a good bit from what they offer or where they sail from, cost, whats included, etc.

Have you ever been to Venice? If not, why not?

I'm not sure it would be my first choice of cities to go out of, but I've never done a cruise from there so its impossible to say.

Venice is great, but its extremely expensive especially hotels. But the airport is right there, I'd assume other then Rome and Athens its one of the only Mediterranean ports you can fly into directly from the states?

Flights to Venice can be had for cheap if you keep an eye out for them. Also airb&b's in Venice are reasonable as well.
