Going to Ireland and traveling with golf clubs 8/27 - 9/2. I need to connect in either ORD or EWR, but I don't know how long I need for a layover.

Clubs will be checked through so no issues there. Depending on the airlines you're flying you'll need to change terminals at ORD which means you may have to reclear security

1 hour 20 minutes in ORD or 2 hours in EWR. 1:20 sounds very short.

Need more info on the airlines. If it's AA/AA or UA/UA 1h 20m should be no problem

You should be fine with 1h 20m through ORD. Though if you're worried, 2 hours is more than enough at EWR.

I'd personally try and avoid the NYC area as they've been plagued by weather/ATC staffing issues recently which has caused a ton of delays/cancellations.

ORD has had some weather issues but still seems like a better bet to me

What about issues transferring luggage?

Personally I would take the 2 hr in EWR, never know if you’ll encounter a delay where 40 min could make a difference. I’d be more concerned about the return trip where you need to clear immigration and bags back in the US.

Bring a rain suit.
