Never been to Islamorada before, and will be there for four days. Will probably fish two of those days. Is there anything else I should check out while I’m down there?

We go every year and have been since i was a kid growing up. Is it a buddy trip or a family trip?

Kinda both. My brother and I will be spending time with and without my family, so suggestions for both would be appreciated

Bunch of good places to eat. Lots of places you can bring the fish you caught that day to and they'll prepare and serve them any way you like it. For those, I recommend Island Grill or Lazy Days.

We usually go backwater fishing one day, deep sea the other, and sandwich scuba diving in between. Sometimes we will rent a boat and go out to the sand bar which is basically like Crab Island in Destin, always a good time. Renting jet skis and exploring the back water is also recommended.

As for drinking, I don't know what kind of scene you are looking for. Hog Heaven is a personal favorite for the late night scene, good food and a typical bar night scene. Lorelei is more casual than Hog Heaven (more of a rough bar when dark hits), but Lorelei's view cant be beat. Wahoo's and Postcard Inn are great spots/Marinas with good food and drink post fishing. The tiki bar at Postcard Inn is my go to as thats where we usually fish out of.

With the kids, I would recommend taking them to Robbie's Marina. You pay x amount for a bucket of fish and you can walk around the marina feeding the tarpon. I loved that shite as a kid. Theatre of the Sea is a pretty cool aquarium/sea world type park. We used to go swim with the dolphins when we were younger. It was fun, but also a bit cheesy.

Hope this helps

People will say Robbie's, I will say avoid Robbie's.

Islamorada and Florida Keys Brewing are both cool. Snorkeling at Alligator Point Lighthouse is amazing. Spend some time drinking and hanging out at the Islamorada Sand Bar.

For food, we liked the food truck at Florida Keys Brewing, Lorelei and Hog Heaven was fun but the food wasn't very memorable. If they are having the farmers market you can stop there and get some awesome fish dips and snacks.

I’m sure you have your charter booked already but if not check out Catchalottafish charters. Went out on their awesome Freeman and limited on tuna and mahi mahi.

Also recommend doing a snorkel trip with Quiescence dive center. Took us out to snorkel at the Christ the Abyss statue and several reefs. Was really fun.

I’m Key Largo, but the Buzzards Roost was a great place to eat/drink and watch some boats.

Lazy Days

Take your fresh catch there. I had ours prepared the lazy days house way, jalapeno crusted, blackened and picatta. We had a group and it was a platter for all to share. I loved the jalapeno crusted the most but it was all top notch. Also, we used brutus seafood to vacuum seal and ship the catch back home.
