Fort Collins or Colorado Springs in April?
I know April isn’t the ideal time to be going but it was the only time that was workable. Flying out of NOLA to Denver, then will do the quick drive to one of those 2 towns. Looking to do some hiking and visit some microbreweries. Would prefer a downtown or part of town that’s walkable. Anyone have information on which would be preferable as far as weather or would there even be a difference? Would welcome other information on either city that would help with the decision. Thanks!

The Fort hands down. Much cooler town overall. Very walkable with tons of shops/restaurants. Perhaps the best microbrewery town in US. College town. Tons of fun.

Colorado Springs is okay. Proximity to cool natural attractions (Pikes Peak, Garden of Gods, etc.). Plus, USAF Academy. But, the Springs has a very different feel overall.

If seeking a hiking/biking/beer drinking Colorado experience, I’d vote for Ft Collins.

All that said, since traffic on I25 sucks in both directions from Denver right now due to construction, a 3rd option to consider would be to head towards Boulder and get into Boulder Canyon. Some of the most scenic hiking/climbing in the entire state. If you make it all the way to Nederland (about 20 mins past Boulder), it’s a cool little town with epic views of the Continental Divide.

Enjoy.

I came here to say that. I had a long answer about how I visited both a few months ago, blah, blah, blah. But the point is... Fort Collins. Colorado Springs sucks

Thanks for the replies. Any must-do hikes, breweries, or restaurants?? Fitness is good
but not great; not looking to try to summit any fourteeners but could likely handle 4-6 mile hikes.

Odell is the classic brewery in Fort Collins and IMO my favorite beer in Colorado. If my memory serves me right it's one of the oldest breweries in Colorado.

I’ve only done rafting and biking out of Fort Collins. I visit RMNP for hiking. Being April, options will be limited.

Food
Social in Ole Town Square. Really cool area to walk around.

Cacciatore Heller’s Kitchen in Jessop Farm Village. Few shops and things. Small brewery there but closed when went. Google will have more info I’m sure

Hah. Looks like the "FoCo rocks, the Springs sucks" thing has already been covered.

Lory State Park and Horsetooth Reservior are your two closest hiking areas. Driving up Poudre Canyon (pro tip, it's pronounced "pooter" canyon... French pronunciation will get you laughed at) will get you to a bunch more.

The Mishawaka is a really cool bar up Poudre Canyon you could check out. Drive up and hike somewhere in the canyon (Young Gulch or Hewlett Gulch are both nearby) then have a drink or some food at the Mish.

Someone already covered Odells as a brewery. If you like sours and saisons, Funkwerks is really good.

We may be there at the same time. We’re flying into Denver from Nola in April as well. Going to keep up with this thread. First time for us
