For National Parks, southern Utah has several. You can also fly in and out of Vegas which might be kind of fun on the way back to relax in a nice hotel with an awesome pool. (Yes, you can bring the kid to Vegas.)

You could also do the Grand Canyon from Vegas or fly into Phoenix and day trip out of Sedona. There’s a ton for everyone to do in Sedona. We took my nephew and he had a blast.

Cruises are also great for active kids. The latest Norwegian, Royal, and Carnival ships have full blown water slides, skating rinks, race tracks, rock climbing walls, cooking classes, mini golf, 10 story slides and a roller coaster. It’s insane. You’d also get a good sample of 3-4 different islands in the Caribbean. The pre teen club will keep the kiddo entertained while you and the wife chill out at the spa or the adults only area.

Length of stay, travel, and budget would be some parameters that would help narrow down the list.

He's the perfect age to introduce to Scuba Diving. Find a nice place with easy scuba diving (clear, warm water, no current) and have hime try the discover scuba course. They give you the basics, start with a shallow dive and gradually take you to 40 - 50 feet down depending on your (or your kid's) comfort and safety level.

This isn't something you want to do for a 3 or 4 day vacation - 5 to 7 days is much better.

Out islands of the bahamas are ideal for kids that love the outdoors.

Trying to decide on family vacation for this summer. Two adults and a 12yo outdoorsy/sports kid.

I took a 13 and 11 year old to Galtinburg / Pigeon Forge last summer and it was great. Two whole days at Dollywood (the rides for that age are awesome), and two days in and out of the National Park (minor hiking). Great trip and temperatures are good.

I'm still looking for something for this summer.

We stayed in blue ridge a couple years ago in June . Stayed in a cabin on the lake . The toasted marshmallow was the name of the airbnb . It has a social media page . You can rent jet skis, boats and pontoons. Also they have some good trout fishing charters , awesome zipline line places , your close to some great white water rafting and kayaking excursions. Down town blue ridge is a strip with restaurants and shops . It’s sorta like gatlinburg on a smaller more peaceful scale . I recommend it
