Following this thread, hopeful for updates and trip reports.

This is something I've been pretty interested in but wasn't quite sure.

We are currently moored at Bratislava. Off our bow is a Ukrainian river excursion vessel. You might be able to get cheap fares with this company, but as soon as you get a board they are liable to draft you into the military.

Just got back from a Paris to Normandy river cruise on the Seine through Avalon Waterways. Very nice. Rooms were very large with beds facing the panoramic floor to ceiling window. Avalon is under the Globus window so they get excellent tour guides as well. This was our first ever river cruise and it was fantastic. Won't see Europe any other way now. Loved it and recommend it wholeheartedly.

Nice! Avalon is top notch.

Need to hear more! We're doing Viking's "Paris & The Heart Of Normandy" in November with some friends. Been debating what to do after the cruise. Thinking of going back and basing in Bayeaux and seeing Normandy. Probably rent a car after we get back to Paris. Some thought then of driving to Verdun to see that, but haven't worked out the details.

Any suggestions on what else you'd do now that you've been there.

Following, as the Mrs. and I have been debating doing one of these.

I saw age jokingly mentioned earlier, but since we are both in our mid-to-late 40's...is there going to be anyone else our age, or would we be surrounded by our parents?

Same age here. Sounds like we will be the youngsters.

LOL! How old are parents?

My guess? Close. The ones I've been on have had early 30's couples, but the vast majority would be in the 50-60's range probably. Depends on the cruise.

I'll tell ya what though, age won't matter. It's just people of all persuasions living the dream and having a great time. Some of them are more fun than younger people.

Thanks Nole for the comments about us older. fun bunch to Rummel and Dust. Last cruise I was on, the 'Younguns" and our crowd danced, drank, and enjoyed evenings together a great deal.

One of the great pleasures of cruising for me is meeting the different people from every walk of life.

Also, I enjoy the French people outside of Paris... wonderful people. I have not been to Normandy, yet, but have been to most other regions.

Have fun, "young man"

We are early 50s. I have a feeling this won't be our last Viking Trip

Wife and I did the Tulip Time cruise on AMA Waterways in the spring of 2018. I have no desire to do the huge cruise ship thing but have plans to do another river cruise in the near future. Our boat had a total of ~145 crew and passengers.
Yes they do most of the "sailing" during the night to reach a port/city for the planned day excursions. You will feel like royalty with the way they treat you and the food on our cruise was fantastic. We were fortunate with the timing and hit the tulips in prime bloom time.

We flew into Brussels and spent a few days at at B&B in a small town in central Belgium. Again, absolutely fantastic stay. Took several day trips around the area with the best being a visit to Bastogne which was on my bucket list. Took the bullet train from Brussels to Amsterdam to board the boat.

I’ve read that Viking gets “discounted” rates on flights for their cruisers. I’m not sure if that’s true or not, but if it is do they accommodate going early/leaving late to allow for what you did? The 3 days early for Budapest and 3 days after for Prague?
