I believe it was Enterprise who bought National and Alamo. Still privately and family owned.

Enterprise for off-airport and customer service.
National for corporate traveling.
Alamo for price competitive family rentals.

Anyone have experience with rock hitting the windshield? Did not purchase additional insurance. Looking for a ballpark of what it might cost out of pocket.

After reading the OP I was in shock as to his experience vs mine with enterprise. I had a rock hit a windshield out in Vegas and since it was small enough, when turning in the car they said not to worry about it. Several weeks later I get a phone call from Enterprise saying I needed to pay them immediately for a brand new windshield. Got about 5 threatening letters in the mail and hounded by phone calls until I had work deal with it. Want to say it was around $250

Eta: The experience was bad enough that I swore off any loyalty I had towards Enterprise. Similar to if you had a shitty experience with a specific airline and say 'I'm never going to fly them again' only to return a year later for a $50 fare
