I'll just add that this is the last total solar eclipse to hit the continental United States until 2044, so if you're of a certain age, you might not get another shot at seeing one without leaving the U.S.

I couldn't agree more. The experience of totality blows away something like 99% coverage. BTW the guy who does XKCD was very close to where my brother and I were and did a strip based on his experience (sorry for the size). I brought a spotting scope covered with film designed for this ( 8"x8" Solar Filter Sheet for Telescopes, Binoculars and Cameras) and the view of the solar flares and corona from the sun was stunning. We also had a hawk come in and roost behind us during the dark, and crickets started chirping, and it cooled noticeably.

Central Texas is going ape over this. Gonna be a massive letdown if it’s cloudy/storming.
