What kind of food are you looking for? Chicago has a HUGE variety. One of the best Chinatowns and Little Indias, and plenty of fancy look-at-me dining, too. Also some pretty solid steaks.

Nothing in particular just good spots.

So far my very rough plan is....

Bavettes Thursday evening on the day we get there.
Friday was thinking River Roast for brunch, Au Cheval for lunch before Girl & The Goat for dinner. Wanted to hit up Pequods for pizza at some point probably Saturday before the LSU game (Need a recommendation on where to watch the Florida game). Also wanted to hit up an Italian Beef spot, heard Als is a good choice? Also heard Corridor was a good brewery to hit up.

That's about all I've got so far. Can switch if there are better options (I do have reservations for Bavettes and Goat already). Also need recs for some bars and rooftop bars for some drinks as well as any other must do's in chicago. Was planning on doing the Chicago Architecture Foundation River Cruise Aboard Chicago's First Lady Cruises on Friday morning/afternoon (or is evening better?).

Alright, this won’t be as detailed as I thought because it’s ND / Wisconsin weekend at Soldier Field, so a lot of people in town and I’m running around Won’t repeat whatever was on the first page from four years ago, but…

Sit-down: Galit, etta, Gretel, Rose Mary, Giant, Chef’s Special

Pizza: Pequod’s is what you’ll hear, and it’s great / worth getting, but few other options to consider is Art of Pizza, Phil’s (IMO, best tavern cut in the city), Milly’s Pizza in a Pan (pick-up only), Boiler Room

Other: Time Out Market in Fulton Market has a ton of options in their food hall, but I have to give special shout-out to Polombia. Husband is Polish and wife is Colombian, so they’ve fused the foods together. Fantastic stuff and such a nice couple. If you’re looking at Chinatown, I’m always a fan of Phoenix Restaurant or Triple Crown.

River Walk: Really been revamped over the last couple years — grab a beer at Tiny Tapp and Northman. Other options as you walk between the two.

Breweries: Will keep my recommendations for the city since I doubt you’ll be in the suburbs, but Maplewood makes some good IPAs. Small taproom, but fun to visit. Metropolitan has the best setting with a big patio along the river. Solemn Oath recently-opened a city taproom in Logan Square — they have a new project called Hidden Hand that has been a welcomed addition. Marz is known for in Bridgeport, which is absolutely worth visiting, but they also opened a north side taproom near Solemn Oath. If you’re into stouts, go to Goose Island on Fulton — they may have a vintage BCS on-tap, but their cellar list is fantastic, too. Otherwise, Maplewood has been doing great things with their stout program, so see if they have anything from Cuppa series. Hop Butcher makes the best hazy IPAs in the city — no taproom currently, but they’ll be moving into Half Acre’s spot on Lincoln Ave in November.

Cocktail bars: Logan Square is loaded with cocktail bars — I love visiting Billy Sunday and The Walk In. The Aviary is worth a deposit / reservation in Fulton Market + you may even want to try The Office downstairs.

Again, I’m running around, so I apologize if this isn’t what you were looking for, but I can get around to anything else later!

Thanks!

I'll start looking at these spots, and yeah I'm not going until 10/14-10/17 so plenty of time to plan.

Tiny Tapp for drinks on the river walk...jap margs were simple and easy.

London House Rooftop not far from there. Had drinks there for sunset, nice way to settle in...can call ahead to see how the wait is..when we went we timed it perfect. Can also make reservations I believe so I rec to do that.

Cindys - overlooking the bean at the Chicago Athletic Association is always a nice spot to hang as well. Can get packed and not be allowed up I believe too. If so, just hang out in the Game Room at the CAC, cool/fun vibe there.

We stayed at Pendry last time in Chicago so was able to take advantage of the rooftop there. Pretty simple and quiet, but the whole vibe the Pendry hotel has is also classic.

Z-Bar is another rooftop with good cocktails down Mag Mile.

Those were all downtown places... Hoops put us on Arbella and I follow them on instagram... creative cocktails and cool spot as well.. we didnt have a chance to make it there, but since I follow them I see all there posts lately and it looks like a great spot.

Middle of October probably will be awesome weather. I'm sure they'll have some great events going on... along with Fall and Halloween coming up. Always look for the little street festivals too. Instagram is a good place to find some fun/interesting things going on.

Nice, I had Tiny Tapp on my list to scope out.

We're staying at the Marriot Downtown Magnificent Mile so that looks to be pretty centrally located.

Also, for getting around town should I buy the unlimited Ventura 3-day pass at the airport for $15 per person or is there a better option?

Can't you just hop on to any train or bus and scan the card with that?

yeah the train is easy to navigate and should have no issue.

We used uber once when we went in August. It was cheaper and not as pricey whenever they had the COVID spike.

The Blue Bikes were easy than the 8 or so miles we would walk. Especially if nice weather and just relaxing.

My Ventra card is in my Apple Wallet, so I don’t know what options are available at the machines, but if you have a tap-to-pay CC/debit, you’re just able to use that at the turnstiles.

I would not go to Chicago without spending at least a 1/2 day eating in Chinatown. Also if you like girl & goat you’ll also like purple pig, more casual and you can usually walk up and grab a seat after having a cocktail

Yeah I've seen that recommended but since we're already doing Girl & The Goat and Bavettes doubt we'll be able to swing it.

I will have to look in to Chinatown though.

Quick question

Is the Chicago Architecture First Lady tours something I should be booking right now or can I wait until my plans are more finalized and we're closer to going to book? Do they sell out? Or is it something I can even walk up to day of and do?

you can book that the day of...nothing crazy about it.

We had planned to do it when we last visited but the weather was so nice and we just decided to walk the river walk area, stop catch some cocktails at some different spots and make our way around. I've heard great things both from people on this board, also from others who have visited CHI....

but we just werent in the moode to drop $120 for a couple to ride a boat in the sun that day...instead spend $120 on more alcohol and enjoy the sights.

But we legit made the decision not to at lunch. Left lunch around 12:45, and was going to hit the 2:00 boat...had plenty of seats available. This was on a Friday afternoon.

Good deal, yeah I wasn't sure if this was something that normally sells out or not.
