I’ll be staying downtown on Wednesday and Thursday night this week. Of course I want to do Chicago style pizza one night, probably a nicer dinner on the other night.

Any recommendations specifically for best pizza in town? Other ideas would be a bonus.

TIA

Guessing by "Chicago-style" pizza, you're meaning deep dish or pan. Best you'll find in the city right now is Milly's Pizza in the Pan. My ultimate preference is tavern-style, and you can't go wrong with Michael's Original. Both spots are in Uptown, so you can take the Red Line from downtown. Assuming you don't want to do that, I've always enjoyed Lou Malnati's Gold Coast location.

Want to help narrow things down a bit? Are you looking for a nice steak dinner, modern/upscale Mexican, small shared plates, Italian, etc.? Just a few immediate ideas, with dozens more that I can give ya:

- Bavette's, Swift & Sons and Kinzie for a steak dinner
- Tzuco or Lena Brava for modern/upscale Mexican
- Girl & The Goat, Rose Mary, The Loyalist, and Roister for shared plates
- Piccolo Sogno, La Scarola, Monteverde, and Formento's for Italian

All of these places are in West Loop, River West and River North. Easy access from downtown.

I was thinking a steakhouse, but since you asked… I would be open to anything so long as I can’t get it anywhere else in the country. I like to try local/unique places rather than chains.

Just search old threads. There's many to go through. All the info is there.

My initial recommendations should be totally sufficient, but I'll steer you to a few other restaurants in the neighborhoods: Galit, Andros Taverna, Mi Tocaya Antojeria, and The Warbler. These four places are near the train, too, so it's easy to navigate.

Please don't go telling everyone about this.

Man, was even telling this board in 2020 and 2021 to skip dine-in at other pizza spots and do pick-up at the ghost kitchen in Logan. Robert and Tony Scardino (Professor Pizza) are pretty easily making the best pizza in the city right now.

The Warbler is my neighborhood spot but out of these I'd second Galit and Mi Tocayla Antojeria as most unique.

Nice! Love that area. You're in a great location for when Hop Butcher finally gets that taproom open. I live in Logan Square, but closer to the Bucktown border at Milwaukee/Western/Armitage.

Sign is up so I imagine it can't be too much longer.

I think I work probably work where you live. Walking distance to Chef's Special, Table Donkey Stick, Taqueria Chingon, 90 Mile.

Only done Lou Malnatis and it was good. The purple pig was good if you are a foodie. I also did the Weber Grill and it was marginal.
