Planning a Disney trip for the fam. I’ve heard that DVC members get special room rates, Park passes, etc

I know we want to stay at either boardwalk or beach club

Is it worth my time to buy a DVC members points? I hear there are websites for this. Reccomendations on said website?

Are you looking to purchase a contract to use points at DVC resorts? Or are you looking to rent someone’s points to use at a vacation club resort?

Only the owners of the points receive the perks and discounts associated with the contract.

If you’re looking to rent points, I recommend dvcrequest.com. I have used them a few times and have been very happy. You will not receive discounts if you rent points.

Do NOT buy a membership for the "perks". There is no value over what we get with a Disney Visa Premier card holder or an AP holder.

This is why you buy. If you want to do Disney in nicer, larger rooms in better locations, then DVC is an option.

There is a ton to consider though. How often do you go? How many points do you need? What month do you choose for "use year"? What time of year do you typically go? What resorts do you like best? Why do you like them? Does resort really matter (it better)? Do you plan on staying in Villas or Studios? What's your favorite park? Buy direct from Disney or resale? Do you know what "Right of first refusal" is? Do you need your points right away or can you be patient?

I would suggest renting DVC points and staying in a couple different places first before you commit all of that cash. DVC is NOT worth it if you have to finance the purchase. Anyone who doesn't have the cash available shouldn't be making this commitment anyway but on top of that it's adding to a price tag that's already steep. I will say though that DVC is a great time share to have if you suddenly find yourself in a position where you have to get out. Resale prices rarely go down and it's a very active market.

The restrictions on resale have removed most of the perks.

David's is fantastic. The more traffic, the better chance you have at getting your request filled. David's is the most popular.

I think the OP is interested in renting points. There are no DVC perks for those who rent points over normal WDW resort perks.

You would have to reserve Beach Club or Boardwalk 11 month out to get it renting DVC points.

If you are looking for the suite style rooms, you can book through WDW or a travel agent and get villas 3-4 months out for most of the year.

I always stay in a regular garden view room at Beach Club for the proximity to Epcot and the Beach Club pool.

You can also sign up for an account on disboards.com and once you have about 10 posts you can get access to the DVC rent points section and rent directly from DVC owners. Prices are typically $1-$3 a point cheaper than David’s DVC but it’s more risky someone could scam you. However there are ways to protect yourself, rent from someone with a long post history, has referrals and also there is a website(can’t remember) that you can actually look up property records to confirm the individual owns a DVC timeshare. We have gone this route over David’s 3 times before and have always had a great experience.

Renting DVC points is a great way to stay in a deluxe resort for the price of staying in a moderate resort.

Excuse my ignorance about this... I was told I can buy a members points to use for 1 vacation. I’m not looking to enter into a contract

If I understood correctly I can use the points I buy to get better rates at the resort.

This is why I want to stay at beach club. My days of staying at the anthill are over

You can rent points through the sites above. Buying points means you own them for the remainder of the lease period (20-40 years). Beach Club is one of the most popular and expensive DVC places to rent point. You would need to reserve 11 months from your vacation to get Beach Club. You can get Saratoga Springs closer to your vacation time.

Disney also rents rooms at the Beach Club villa (DVC) as well as regular beach club through their normal reservation system with more availability than renting DVC points.

When are you thinking about going?

Yes, 50 years for a new contract. Most of the resales are 20-40 years. Renting points is for 1 year.

About to make my third trip to Disney doing just this.

Do you due diligence on who you rent from and it should be a smooth transaction.

I always use PayPal to pay the owner in case something goes south.

Best perk for me so far in renting points is that you get access to the top of the Bay Lake Towers to watch the firework show at Magic Kingdom!

You MAY get lucky and get Beach Club Or Boardwalk but probably not. Like others have said, you have to rent 11 months out for those spots. That's right in the middle of the Food And Wine Fest so they book with a quickness. One thing to consider, try The Swan or Dolphin. You can get some great rates, at times, and still be only a minute or so further away from EPCOT.

We tried to rent points for a studio at Boardwalk this past October at the 11 month mark and it was already booked up. We ended up staying at Bay Lake Towers which was still nice as someone mentioned earlier you can watch the MK fireworks from there as they pipe in the music as well. Plus the ease of walking to MK makes Bay Lake a great place to stay.

It's pretty easy to get to EPCOT, too. One stop to the TTC. And then change monorails to EPCOT. 20 minutes from room to gate.

You are probably too late to rent points.

Garden view room at Beach Club is 540 per night, 1 bedroom villa is 750 per night, 2 bedroom villa is 1200 per night booking through Disney. Boardwalk is about the same.

We rented DVC points from Daves DVC rentals (legit) and saved a ton. Got a room at the Boardwalk for the same price as it would have cost us to stay at a Moderate resort if we booked through Disney. Great deal to rent points. Notice that you don't get house keeping though, they will only come on the 4th day to change trash and bring new towels. If you stay to an 8th day I think they do a full cleaning then.

Also, these rooms are different than the hotel rooms in that there are none that have two queen beds in one room. You will always have a queen bed and a pullout sofa as your options unless you want to go big and rent a 2 BR but then that is super expensive. Even the 1BR have the one bed in the BR and a sleeper sofa in the living room area. So if it is important to have two queen beds this could be an issue.

When do you want to go? I see people saying they couldn't get the Boardwalk at 11 months out but I got it at 10 months out during the busiest time of the year. May depend on the type of room you want, I just needed a studio and had to get the preferred view which was slightly more but they were out of the standard view.

Go to Dave's DVC Rentals and use their cost calculator to see the cost of various resorts and then fill out a request form for the one you want. It is a $112 deposit that they keep if they can fulfill your request but they apply it to your total cost. If they can't fulfill it because it isn't available then you get the money back. So only request if you are prepared to commit and you have to pay in full once they tell you it is available.

Edit: I see you want to go in October. I am guessing Boardwalk is more in demand in October than December (the busy time I mentioned I am going) because of its proximity to EPCOT and the food and wine festival going on. So makes sense that it goes super fast during that festival.
