Denver - Hiking

Traveling to Denver in mid-September. We wanted to hike Mount Evans, but appears they've closed down a large section of the road because of COVID.
Looking for something challenging and/ or a 14er. I've got the following on the list:
Grays and Torrey's Peak
Mount Audubon Trail
South Arapaho Peak
James Peak
Have any of you hike these trails? Or should I be looking at any others?

Have you looked at Rocky Mountain National Park? Was there last week and hiked Sky Pond for the first time. Great hike. Logged 12.5 miles that day.

If you have time for the drive try the Manitou incline in Colorado Springs. Very challenging and incredible views from the top. There is also Pikes Peak which is an awesome 14er to hike.

Arapaho has some exposure and scrambling. If you have any fear of heights scratch that one. The others are just walks, steep uphill walks but walks.
Bierstadt or Quandary may be your type of hype.

The 14ers are pretty crowded. I saw at least a few thousand people on Quandary, and we got to the trailhead at about 4am. I like James Peak and Mount Lady Washington.. much less crowded.

Check out All Trails.
Hopefully by mid September the weather turns around and helps put out the fires.

Bingo. I can barely see the flatirons today! Do you have ash on your cars where you live?

Thanks for the heads up. Didn't realize there were fires in Colorado.
I've been on All Trails just scoping some stuff out. I would have liked to stay a little closer to Boulder to hike Rocky Mountain National Park, but we're staying in Denver instead. Now looking at trails West of Denver, as that seems to be the closer route.

We have a lot of wild fires right now. 5 as of right now. Travel to the mountains during this time is strongly discouraged.

Grizzly Creek Fire - 26,000 acres and 0% contained
Cameron Peak Fire - 12,000 acres and 0% contained
Willians Fork Fire - 6,400 acres and 0% contained
Garfield County Fire - new fire as of last night. Info unknown

Yes. I’m in Wash Park. I started to notice the ash yesterday morning. Cars and porch had a noticeable amount. The trees are starting to show signs of distress, the 10-day forecast has no rain, and my lawn is jacked. Fall can’t come soon enough.

I’ve never done a 14er. My friends did Bierstadt 2 weekends ago; I was shocked by their pictures showing the amount of people at the summit. They left Denver at 3:30a and got one of the last parking spots at the trail head.
I’ve quickly learned that hiking is like skiing. The harder it is, the fewer people can do it. If a trail is easily accessible and doesn’t take skill, it will be jammed up. 4+ stars, Moderate rated trail, within 2 hours drive of Denver will be jammed on the weekend.

Nice. I love Wash Park. I lived off Bayaud/downing for a bit.

The towers? We moved from there at the beginning of the summer. We really liked the neighborhood but wanted some more space. Its a cool building though.
