Dallas to Portland, ME in October--Flight help

Planning a trip to Portland Maine early Oct. We usually prefer Southwest, but they have no direct flights to Portland or Boston.
We're gonna have a full week, so hoping to fly in on Saturday morning, pick up rental and drive to Portland(if we fly into Boston). Stay in Maine until Wed or Thurs then do a few days in Boston before leaving Saturday night or Sunday---this is if we fly into Logan
If we can find a direct flight to Portland that isn't $$$, we'd probably only stay Saturday thru Wednesday or Thursday and come back.
Google flights is showing flights are high right now. We were hoping to find <$300 RT per person.
Anyone have experience with this trip? When to get best deals on flights? Etc

Do you have a direct JetBlue flight to Logan?
Not direct, but likely cheapest/easiest.
Enjoy the Portland Jetport!

I would imagine airline schedules are pretty wonky right now. I would another couple of months and look again. I did that trip 3 or 4 years ago. Flew direct to Boston on American I think, Spent a few days there then took the train to Portland. We then rented a car and drove to vermont and then to Montreal and flew back to Dallas from there.

I just found my flight info to Boston and we flew Southwest direct and we paid $120 each for a one way flight. We flew air canada back to Dallas from Montreal.

Just checked Jet Blue...$548 RT for 1 person using just regular "Blue" package which doesn't include a checked bag, so $1000+ for 2 people

Wait on purchasing is my advice. I've seen flights priced very high for schedules a while from now
