We are flying into Liberia and staying at Andaz Costa Rica Resort at Peninsula Papagayo.

What would be 1-2 of the best day/partial day excursions from there?

Tamarindo is cool. Good day trip. (1.5 hour drive)

You could go see Arenal on a different day, maybe you can track when it may be a clear day. (3 hour drive)

Montezuma is perfection, most amazing hike up waterfalls you’ll ever do. (4 hour drive)

Those longer drives may be too much, it’s very unpredictable on the roads...but, that’s REALLY seeing CR.

Great choice. I stayed at the Andez resort a few years back and loved it. The on site restaurants are great and the staff is wonderful.

We did two excursions away from the resort. The first was a half day excursion. We went on a river boat tour in Palo Verde National Park. It was fun, but was somewhat short and didn't see a ton of different animals. Personally saw way more monkeys and birds at the resort itself(many up close and personal). It was cool to see some big crocodiles though. I've wondered if we would have had more fun doing an ATV ride or hiking the mountain, but we are doing that in South Africa this summer so it all works out.

Our second excursion was a full day excursion with two parts at Rincon de la Vieja national park. We booked it through Adventure Tours Hacienda Guachipelin. Part one was a horseback/tubing adventure. First we took horses up the side of the mountain to the entry point on the river. The horses were really calm and easy. They basically walk themselves up the trail, so if you are new to riding don't worry. Then we tubed down the river for three miles back down to the bottom. The tubing part was a blast. They call it white water tubing because there are many little waterfall drops along the way.

After lunch we headed to part two, which was called the Canyon Canopy Tour. This consisted of zip lining, rock climbing, and a tarzan swing. This was by far my favorite thing we did. Got some wonderful Go Pro footage.

Lastly, there is a sunset cruise offered from the resort that I'd recommend. They take you out on this sailboat with drinks to see Monkey Head Island. Anyways, I hope you find this helpful and have fun on your trip!

We went to Andaz last July. It is a truly beautiful place to go. We weren't able to do many excursions because we were at a destination wedding. I know that you can go deep sea fishing at the resort for $500. They have complimentary paddle boards and snorkeling gear. The best thing I did though was going scuba diving with a few buddies. I didn't personally dive, but you do go on a long boat ride around the peninsula. They allow you to jump in and snorkel. It's amazing seeing the different parts of the area. Enjoy yourself, but definitely do get away from the resort area and experience life away from the Country Club lifestyle.

If going with buddies, go to Jaco. You'll figure it out from there. If going with family, definitely don't go to Jaco.

I’ll be on the peninsula papagayo later this week. Staying at secrets. Never done an all inclusive before.
