Looking for advice regarding a trip in late October. Parking seems to cost more than the hotels, so i was wondering if anyone had experience staying locally and being shuttled, etc. Honestly, just looking for ideas right now, i booked a few hotels online and just need to start calling for info before cancelling

I live in South Austin and that place is out in the middle of nowhere.

I can't think of any hotels nearby, your best bet is probably to stay near the airport or the Buda/Kyle area and take an Uber in.

If you're coming for F1 there may be some more hotel shuttles. Maybe look for something downtown so you have some nightlife as well

We went a couple years ago for F1 and drove ourselves to the track and paid for parking. Sunday after the race it took hours to get out of there, so pack some beers in an ice chest in the car. If we had stayed for the concerts on Sunday it might not have been as bad leaving but we didn't. We did stay for the concert on Saturday after qualifying and i don't recall it taking near as long to get out of there after that.

That same year, there were alot of shuttle bus horror stories. However hopefully they ironed out the bugs since then.

Are you attending the F1 race? We did in 2021 and bought a parking pass for the whole weekend. We skipped Friday to do some day drinking in town, getting there Saturday wasn't bad and we stayed Saturday night for the concert and leaving also wasn't bad, maybe 30 minutes from the time we got to the vehicle to get back to downtown Austin. Sunday morning was again fine, Sunday after the race was a nightmare with massive traffic congestions taking something like 3 hours to leave.

If it means anything it sounded like the post-race shuttle service wasn't much faster. If I had to do it again I'd suggest staying a while after the race, there was some post-race concerts(Shaq was DJing) and other stuff that I wish we'd have done to kill some time instead of just sitting in the car.

Pro-tip: Pack an ice chest so you'll have some post-race beers while you wait.

Pro-tip2: If you're going try to book dinner reservations ASAP, we waited until about a month out and there wasn't a ton of options available so we had to be flexible. ATX Cocina is fantastic, go there.

ETA: If my post and Mark Makers post appear similar, this is no coincidence, he was sitting in the car next to me

We're doing qualifying and the Killers concert Friday, then Sprint and out of there Saturday..Looks like we decided to stay in Seguin so that we can do San Antonio too

Man, for a weekend, staying in Seguin isn't going to really let you do San Antonio or Austin

It's in the middle, but it's 40-45 minutes with no traffic to San Antonio and over an hour to Austin. Not sure you're gonna want to try and do those after spending the day/night at the track.

Also, if you're set on doing both, I'd look at staying in San Marcos/New Braunfels as they'll have more to do
