Chicago Vaccine Requirement

Just an FYI for those planning Chicago spring/summer weekends, there is now a Vaccine Requirement, effective January 3. Applies to public indoor spaces:
https://www.chicago.gov/city/en/sites/covid19-vaccine/home/chi-vaccine-requirement.html
Most bars/restaurants started requiring proof of vaccination shortly before the holidays, in anticipation of the mandate. There are a few Chicago folks on this board that can share their experience, too, but the inconvenience for me has been minimal (vaccinated). Bars are still crowded and aren't so stringent on wearing masks because a lot of people are standing around, anyway. You see sit-down restaurants get a bit more strict about masks if you get up from your table. Other than that, still no capacity restrictions to worry about.
If you're vaccinated, I'd say book your trips without worry. Happy to answer any other questions.
quote:
- Indoor Dining: Establishments where food or beverages are served, including, but not limited to, restaurants, bars, fast food establishments, coffee shops, tasting rooms, cafeterias, food courts, dining areas of grocery stores, breweries, wineries, distilleries, banquet halls, and hotel ballrooms; and
- Indoor Fitness: Gyms and fitness venues, including, but not limited to, gyms, recreation facilities, fitness centers, yoga, Pilates, cycling, barre, and dance studios, hotel gyms, boxing and kickboxing gyms, fitness boot camps, and other facilities used for conducting indoor group fitness classes; and
- Indoor entertainment and recreation venues where food or beverages are served: Including, but not limited to, movie theaters, music and concert venues, live performance venues, adult entertainment venues, commercial event and party venues, sports arenas, performing arts theaters, bowling alleys, arcades, card rooms, family entertainment centers, play areas, pool and billiard halls, and other recreational game centers.

Forgive my ignorance, but I thought this was already in place for a while now. My friend went to Chicago a few months ago, and she had to get negative tested before going and said they were very strict. This was well before the holidays.
Is this removing the negative test option or something?
If so, that seems really stupid considering a negative test is likely even better than a vaccine.. judging by the data we are seeing currently with vaccinated individuals spreading/catching Covid.

There was never a city-wide mandate of vaccination proof, or negative result (isn't included in the latest mandate), before January 3.
However, in the late summer months, there were some festivals (i.e. Lolla) that required proof or negative test. This was during the time that indoor mask mandate came back and some bars/restaurants, at their own discretion, did require proof or negative result. I didn't see it too much, personally. Only bar that asked me for proof was Emporium. Otherwise, I'm sure most concert venues required something.

Ah, okay. Maybe she just tested because she thought she had to. She might have been referring to the masks when she said it was strict.
Surprised they won't allow negative test. Seems like a risky decision for cities that get a good bit of tourists.

Not even negative test? Seems like a lawsuit opportunity for residents.

I don't think NYC allows negative test either, and it has been a while now. :/

Glad I got to scratch Chicago off the list a couple of years ago. Maybe it will get better......

I'm trying to get my friend to tag along on a trip to Chicago in aa few weeks. He is unvaccinated. How strict are they being on checking ID's matching cards?

Thanks for the update!
Would love to make another trip to visit my buddy, but unfortunately with all of the hoopla right now about vaccine mandates we'll just lay low...
Side note: Saw the Barstool River North Bar opening tonight. Believe tonight is invite only, but starting tomorrow its wide open to anyone. Pres said he was watching the Natty there Monday night... not sure if you are into Barstool Sports, but go check it out and let me know how it is!
Big Cat is in town too I saw.... Wisconsin buddies?

Been to a couple places that didn't look at my ID and vaccination card simultaneously, but others really do scan back-and-forth. I'd be prepared to get turned away from plenty of places, but you may end up skating by at a couple others.
I can't really give you anything definitive, unfortunately.

I follow Barstool, and some of their personalities, on social media, but I'll probably wait to go. I bet it'll be tough to get any seating this weekend / Monday night. Will let you know, though!
Big Cat is so pure Love that guy. He's a five years older than me, but I have met him a couple random times.
