Taking SSL train Sunday morning back to Chicago (looks like kids are free on that leg since it's weekend and non-peak hours).

Just a heads up that the Bears are playing at home and it's a noon game so that train might be a little more crowded and festive than it otherwise would be.

Yes, figured this might be the case. Flights tfrom MSY-ORD were much more than I wanted to pay but couldn’t avoid it.

SSL was easy today, but we made it more difficult picking up a tavern pie from Zarella for the journey (thanks to hoops’ definitive thread for the rec )

Flack Jacket? Seriously though ND is a must trip for any CF fan, just don't expect an upgraded stadium. Fans are good and don't step in-front of the marching guys in kilts, the don't stop for anyone.

You could also fly into South bend if the prices isnt too bad. Tour Notre Dame's campus on the Thurs you fly in and then head to Chicago. That way you can get back to South Bend Friday Night and can sleep and go straight to the game for tailgating and such Saturday.

Circling back here to give anyone that may be thinking about making this trip in the future. The drive from Chicago to ND is not bad at all. Game started at 7:00pm EST and we were back to the hotel in Chicago before 11:00pm CST. Honestly, I'd do it again if LSU ever plays up there. Incredible campus, easy neighborhood parking, barely any traffic and a couple of great bars. You could stay in South Bend the noght before or after, but seemed like the surrounding town wasnt much. Found it much or enjoyable not wasting time with that and just renting a car for the day so I could wake back up in Chicago.
