Sure. You kept asking questions so I kept answering them.

Have you been to the Yorktown on Patriot's Point?

On page 1 (from March) you said you haven't been to Acme.

Have you been yet?

I've been by the Yorktown a bunch of times on my bike and on the water on cruises but have yet to actually board it and do the experience, though I'd like to as I love WWII stuff.

Have not been to Acme yet either but hope to soon...every time I drive by I'm on my way to either The Dinghy or Windjammer.

bruh.... I know it's a heat wave right now and I wouldn't recommend it, but as soon as it cools down, this needs to be #1 on your priority list. You need to put something on your Outlook calendar in September to remind you to do this.

Chuck, headed back next week for the Charleston Open clay event. Any restaurants open since last July that I should put on the itinerary?

Got a res at Halls and will be going back to 167 raw/bar.

Nice! The GF sometimes gets tickets to the Charleston Open and goes for work. I have yet to go.

If you haven't been to Vern's yet, you should try. They've gotten a Michelin star since you were last here and even if you can't get a reservation they can likely get you in as a walk in. You may just have to grab a drink nearby while you wait for the table. A lot of the recent new openings seem to be Italian, which isn't my favorite type of food, but we've tried many of them:

Legami has a cool space but the food was really underwhelming. Pelato was fine, but no real urge to go back, Volpe has a coursed menu and is good and gives you a lot of food, Allora has a beautiful space in a great neighborhood but I've heard mixed reviews on the food. Sorelle was probably open the last time you were here and is a go to for us...great location and scene and good food. That all said, Vern's had probably the best pasta dishes we've had here.

One you may want to try to get into is Merci. They're up for a James Beard Best New Restaurant award. Super small place just off king and their signature dish is the beef Wellington. We didn't get it our first time and are planning to fix that next time.

Others that aren't new but I think you't go wrong with:
Costa
Chez Nous
SNOB
Chubby Fish (put your name in and go drink at Minibar or Cutty's while you wait)
Marbled and Fin

I know I mentioned walk in at a few but you can walk in to just about all of these and very likely get seated. Most people don't realize that.

Happy to provide more specific reccos if you're looking for a particular type of cuisine.

ETA: I've heard some stories in the last couple months about people essentially blacking out after Hall's. I'm not saying someone over there is spiking drinks, but just keep an eye on your lady

Coincidentally made this thread and am going back to Charleston a bit unexpectedly this June.

Last year we went to Husk, FIG, Raw 167, Fleet's Landing, Poogan's Porch, Lewis BBQ, and Leon's.

We actually loved Husk. Leon's was fun. Raw was very good

Chubby was closed the only day I had available to go last time, so I am definitely going to go this time despite it being a short trip

Will probably otherwise keep this much more casual

It is hot, but South La is worse. You also get breeze off the water most days. Go for it.

Heavy's has the best smash burger in town, Little Jack's has a great regular burger. Blind Tiger and Moe's Crosstown have great bar food (I only go to Blind Tiger when I can be outside in the beer garden), Lewis has the best BBQ (Palmira is really good but a bit of a hike), O Bar by the market has a great oyster happy hour M-F, if you're going for a drive and want a great beach vibe try Chico Feo on Folly or Islander 71 on IOP...swing by The Dinghy after 3 for a great scene and live music.

Staying at Charleston Place. Because of the shortness of the trip, outside of Chubby, gonna probably eat at places relatively close by. I know Little Jack is up closer to Leon's and all that right?

Anything in that area that you recommend for casual but still really good

I do want to try Xiao Bao Biscuit as well

Yup.

Walking distance from Charleston Place...Blind Tiger has a great scene, good views and food at Fleet Landing, happy hour at O-Bar (I think they're $1.50 for the James River now though, but other happy hour items are cheap too), FIG is great if you want another good meal, brunch at SNOB (the burger is fantastic), Church and Union has a really cool space and good food although it's a bit dark and inside, 167 Raw which has been mentioned, and Bar 167 ustairs from there has really good drinks and the food is solid as well.

If you're going to Chubby Fish, drinks at Minibar or Cutty's (super dive bar, don't be intimidated) while you wait, or if you want a fancy vibe and really good drink try Seahorse right next door. The owners of Chubby Fish opened it up about a year ago to serve people waiting to eat in the restaurant.

Xiao Bao biscuits is not far from us but we have yet to try it. A guy from our Packers group works there and speaks highly of it so we'll probably give it a shot at some point.
