I will be in Cancun in about 3 weeks with my 15 month old. She told me to tell you everything is fine.

You're probably safer there than walking some of the streets in the United States. Thousands of tourists visit it each month. The only people who you hear about are those that wander off to sketch areas looking for trouble like anywhere else in the world. If you're never even leaving the resort, you have literally zero chance to worry.

Flying out at 9:25 tomorrow morning. Went 2 times last year. There is nothing to worry about. Is there crime, yes. Should you wander around quiet downtown areas late at night, no.

Go, have fun, enjoy the food and the people.

Yep. Went a few years back and had no issues. It was a great time. Stayed at Excellence Playa Meurjes.

If we are being honest, the absolute last thing the cartels and stuff want is the US government coming into Mexico for a kidnapping or anything of an American citizen. They will do a better job keeping the tourist areas safe of stuff like that than anyone

You mean the post about a two year old incident, which didn't involve a cartel shootout? What about it?

Fun fact, I was in the middle of taking off from Miami to Cancun for my honeymoon when this happened. Pilot pulls the e-brake mid takeoff. We sit at the gate for an hour with baiscally no news, getting small snipits from twitter about maybe a bomb or something and that video of people mass exiting the airport.

They then unload our plane, we sit for another 20 minutes or so, then re-board, and take off as normal for Cancun.

Man, good times.

Just got back yesterday from Valentin Imperial Riviera May for 6 days. Hotel provided transportation to and from the Cancun airport and we did an excursion to Xcaret Xplor park while there.

Yes there are cab drivers and locals trying to scam you when you arrive but if you have your transportation lined up and follow their instructions you have nothing to worry about. We had an absolutely amazing trip. Would go back in a heartbeat
