I’m looking to take my family (4 people) to the mountains later this year. I’ve been before but not looking for a big cabin so the search is a bit all over the place.

Going to avoid all the touristy shite in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. Anyone have any recs on areas to stay or specific cabins? If anyone here has a cabin to rent, I’ll be glad to give my money to a poster rather than a company.

Look for a place around Bryson City. It’s the perfect area if you’re trying to avoid the touristy stuff. We stayed here LINK

If you want to be on the TN side, then Townsend is a good option. Otherwise I agree on Bryson City.

We are staying in a cabin in Townsend in October. Found it on airbnb, have had good luck with Airbnb cabins in the past.

Had bad luck with one I found on a private company website, I like that you can read real reviews on airbnb.

My old man has a place on sugar mountain, but I feel that may be a bit east of where you're aiming.

I'm in the same boat. We like to go up for a week and spend at least a day or If can convince her 1.5 days in Cade's Cove looking at wildlife and those monstrous white tailed bucks and turkey. I would like to find something away from Gattlinburg/Pidgeon Forge as that area is Disney packed nowadays. We also would consider something near Cherokee NC as we follow the Elk herd over there also.

We rented a cabin in Lake Lure NC. Great place, not real touristy. They shot Dirty dancing there, and at Chimney Rock, they filmed part of Last of the Mohicans. Would go again
