Going to Punta Cana next March. Was looking to bring some cigars back and some alcohol if possible. Looking into how much I’m allowed to bring back for each now

FYI, those “Cuban cigars” they will try to sell you on the beach are fake, cheap arse cigars.

^^^ Exactly.
Only buy from La Casa del Habano.
A brand difficult to counterfeit is Fonseca.
Use this site as a guide, and only for a guide for prices:
Finest Cuban Cigars
Mail Order remains ILLEGAL.

Good to know! I’m not a expert cigar guy so I probably should not go out looking for Cubans because I won’t really know the difference

You will be much better off buying Dominican cigar brands while you are there. Get them in the duty free shop. Today's Cubans are not the Cubans pre-Castro. Dominican and Nicaraguan cigars are much better.
"Cubans are still making the best cigars in the world. They are just not making them in Cuba."

Yea that’s probably my best best. Another dumb question... but exactly how many cigars and bottles of alcohol am I legally allowed to bring back?

Now that I don’t know. Just be ready to enjoy some Brugal rum and Presidente beer. When they make your drinks, ask for the extra veijo Brugal. They have it and hide it from tourists. However, if you ask, they’ll know you are in the know. Don’t be stupid and get the mamma juana though.

If you bring back too much, pay the duty.

As far as cubans, I believe the cap is like ~$400 worth. When I came back from Havana, this was not even checked at customs. For the other country's cigars, and dont quote me on this, I believe you can bring back as much as youd like, but after a certain point you have to claim it and pay taxes. Im 100% positive this is the case regarding alcohol, but I just didnt claim any of my 10 liters of Havana Club Rum and got away with it.

Dominican cigars are just as good, if not better. Go to a reputable shop and rely on the owner's suggestions.

All of them smell like shite.

It's a local shot.
Mamajuana is mostly rum, some wine, and honey. They're combined in a bottle that was pre-filled with native roots and wood chips to give it a spicy/smokey flavor.
I enjoy it, although many do not. Everyone on the island has their own recipe. The resort was super potent, but in the mountains it was almost like a sipping wine.
