For those of you heading into Bozeman, I just booked a car thru Explorer Rental in Bozeman for 8 days in late September 2021. It is an all wheel drive Subaru Outback with heated seats and snow tires. They also offer other items as part of your rental like bear spray, spotting scopes, ice chests, etc. For $800, I have the car, RCP insurance, bear spray, 75 qt ice chest, all taxes and fees for 8 days. Am I wrong for thinking that is a pretty good deal?

You shouldn’t need snow tires till October, truthfully. But snow tires aren’t even an option with the major chains.

Mid august 2019 I got a compact suv for 7 days for $240 by using auto slash at Bozeman airport. No bear spray or cooler though...

Everything is expensive for a nice western vacation so yes it seems like a good deal, but you are almost a year away and haven't experienced them yet so I'm going to pump the breaks on that decision until after your trip.

My father in law has a place in Jackson hole and rents some 4x4s from a local guy that owns a shop in town. Its a lot cheaper then the national companies also. But we are talking 5-15 year old vehicles also.

We flew into Missoula the last Saturday of this past September, picked up a rental(Infiniti QX50) from the airport Alamo, adventured around Montana, then dropped the car at Bozeman airport the following Saturday. $305.00.

Bear spray is pretty cheap and can be found at a lot of stores. If it’s a big part of your rental package I’d just buy it yourself.

$100/day for a rental car seems like alot of money. Bear spray is only $35-$40 dollars.
