Which was is the best way to drive it...North to South or South to North?
I did the Pacific Coast Highway years ago North to South and I wish I had gone South to North.

Six of one, half dozen of the other.

Definitely a credible name to answer my question. Thanks!
When things get back to normal definitely something on my bucket list.

Dumb question but why?

I was living in Pennsylvania and I had a conference in Sacramento...after the conference I decided to stay a few days in San Diego so I rented a car and spent some time in the PCH.
Thought South to North would have been a better drive since you can look left without taking your eyes off the road.

I've done end to end several times both ways. Start on the northern side and go south easily, southern section is 100x better than the northern section. Skip Skyline Dr, it's boring.
Better views at the end of your journey and you don't have that boring arse drive through VA interstate where they will ream your arse for speeding on your way back to LA after completing it.

Agree that the NC portion is the best. Make sure to stop at Mt. Mitchell—highest point East of the Mississippi.

Damit how did I miss this when we did the Blue Ridge. Oh well something to look at on our next trip out that way.

That's disappointing. I'd always wanted to do it.

It's rolling hills, it can be pretty in the fall, but it just isn't worth the hassle and toll compared to the BRP. If you have the parks pass, sure go for it if you got time to burn. It's one of those things after you do it, it's not something you really want to do again. I find it a waste of time that could be used for further exploration of the prettier areas of the BRP.

UPDATE:
A few years ago I had a speaking engagement in Richmond, VA and I drove up to Phoenixville, PA for a few days!
On the drive home, about 70 miles North of Roanoke, VA I jumped on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The most stressed 3 hours in a vehicle in my life and that's including the bus ride to California.
I was suffering from PTSD so I spent the next few weeks watching YouTube videos about it.
I am planning on driving it from beginning to end over a few days...stopping and exploring the sights.
I am scarred of heights so that's why I want the challenge.

North to South so you end up in God’s Country!
